Yes, utter denial of anything upleasant does feel good - Christian Science gives one a pseudo-religious, pseudo-scientific system to lean on. Unfortunately it just doesn't work in the end.
Finding a good spiritual system is difficult, but absolutely not impossible. I'm a firm believer in "seek and ye shall find", and "knock, and the door shall be opened unto you". May God show you the way!

I attended Principia College in teh 1970's Welcome, Anonymous! It's good to hear from a fellow Principian. I also attended Prin in the 1970's, so perhaps we know each other. I left CS in 1985 (you can see my story in the Personal Stories section of the Christian Way web site). Your former husband's conmment that "'Know Thyself" is not the theme of C.S. teaching" is VERY true. So sorry to hear of the problems that you and he had, including the fact that he died young.
