I read recently on Wikipedia about a heavy metal song alleged to be about CS. Until It Sleeps is by Metalica members James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich. According to Wikipedia:
The song itself is about cancer and how it killed both of Hetfield's parents. Being of the Christian Science faith, neither of them sought medical treatment. Believing that faith and God would heal them, both of Hetfield's parents succumbed to the disease.
Someone deleted the Wikipedia links as irrelevant, but I think at least one may be relevant and am thinking about restoring it.
Anybody have any thoughts along this song or its relevancy to the Wikipedia article?

Do Go Be Man,
There is an NPR interview with this man online, as well as numerous other links to biographical-type information on him and the songs written as a result of his emotional pain. In the interview, which is perhaps the most reliable source, he mentions his CS upbringing and states that it led to a family life that was both 'insular' and 'elitist'. His mother died when he was a teenager, apparently after refusing medical treatment for cancer.
I'm not a Wikipedia fan, actually, so someone else may be able to give you better advice on the wisdom of restoring the links. I do believe there is ample documentation for the connection between at least two Metallica songs and the legacy of CS.

The other Christian Science-inspired Metallica song was "The God That Failed", if I remember correctly.

| People can check out Metallica lyrics at: http://http://www.encycmet.com/lyrics/ I took a gander at the lyrics, and the connection to CS is rather tenuous. They allow for CS inference, but not much more. I never considered head-bangers significant poetry, anyway.

Metallicas Black Album is the one I relate with the most. He is verbally expressing his pain and identifying his observations. On the other side know I can trully make sense of his lyrics. Here are some examples that hit the strongest with me: “Holier than thou” you lie so much you believe yourself - judge not lest ye be judged yourself holier than thou - you are - holier than thou - you are - you know not before you judge me take a look at you - can't you find somethig better to do - point the finger, slow to understand - arrogance and ignorance go hand in hand “Through the Never” All that is, was and will be - universe much too big to see time and space never ending - disturbing thoughts, questions pending limitations of human understanding - too quick to criticize - obligation to survive - we hunger to be alive “Nothing Else Matters” So close no matter how far - couldn't be much more from the heart - forever trusting who we are - and nothing else matters never opened myself this way - life is ours, we live it our way - all these words I don't just say - and nothing else matters trust I seek and I find in you - every day for us something new - open mind for a different view - and nothing else matters (When I was just getting out of CS, I kept playing and replaying this one song. It reconfirmed what I believed. When you listen to this song with the volume up, it is so powerful!!!) This by far is my favorite song - it nails my feelings!!! “The God That Failed” Pride you took - pride you feel - pride that you felt when you'd kneel not the word - not the love - not what you thought from above it feeds - it grows - it clouds all that you will know - deceit - deceive - decide just what you believe I see faith in your eyes - never your hear the discouraging lies - I hear faith in your cries broken is the promise, betrayal - the healing hand held back by the deepened nail follow the god that failed find your peace - find your say - find the smooth road in your way trust you gave - a child to save - left you cold and him in grave it feeds - it grows - it clouds all that you will know - deceit - deceive - decide just what you believe “The Struggle Within” Reaching out for something you've got to feel - while clutching to what you had thought was real struggle within it suits you fine - struggle within your ruin - struggle within you seal your own coffin - struggle within the struggling within (Many lyrics left out, even though I really wanted to include them)
Hope these help those who are stuggling. Frogs25

There is also a reference to Christian Science in the song "The Gates of Cerdes" by Procol Harum. I'm sure a Google search wil find the full lyrics. The line I can remember is
"Even the Christian Scientists can but display marble plaques"
