We were proposed this question at school in our Bible class.

"What will it cost for a Christian Scientist to turn to Christ?"

Can anyone help me answer this? Thank you

Angel,

We were proposed this question at school in our Bible class.
"What will it cost for a Christian Scientist to turn to Christ?"
Can anyone help me answer this?

Sorry that I've taken so long to respond to you. I was otherwise distracted.

I'm curious about the context of the question and topic of your Bible class when it was asked. If you share that, you may get better answers.

As a CSist who turned to Christ, the costs have included a lot of regret for having inadequately and falsely studying God's word during the years I was in CS. It would have been great to have had the time and mental flexibility of youth to have learned things like how to read the ancient languages. When I think about costs and CS, I think more about the costs of not turning to Christ.

Many of my family members and friends remain in CS. We cannot discuss spiritual matters. I've been out of touch with many for quite some time as a result. Though they know I am no longer in CS, they do not know the degree to which I've turned from it such as being co-moderator of this forum. I don't tell them because I believe it would turn them further from Christ in being even more defensive of CS.

Turning to Christ in the sense that I mean and that I think you do often leaves a CSist with an overwhelming sense of guilt for being disloyal to MBE and doubt for suddenly forsaking that with which they are familiar. I still feel a level of guilt at times for disloyalty to MBE and my CS teacher though firmly know loyalty to Christ is all that really matters. When I left CS, I had no church to which to turn and nothing like this forum in which I could seek solace. It took some time to understand what accepting Christ really meant, but certainly well worth it all.

Is that along the lines of what you're looking for?

To come to Christ, a Christian Scientist must:

-- Leave "the Truth" for what they have always believed is a kindergarten level of Christianity. This can be humiliating since they know that their CS friends are thinking that they just "didn't understand" CS. It can feel like a huge spiritual "step down" even if they know it is not.

-- Leave a leader to whom they may carry a deep sense of loyalty. It's painful feeling like a traitor.

-- Leave an entire worldview (all is spiritual; the material world is an illusion) and a sense of control over their lives. CSists believe that, with proper understanding and application of the truth laid out in CS, they can heal any problem that seems to come their way.

-- Lose close relationships with many of the CS friends and family they love.

-- Lose a sense of "spiritual heritage."

-- Lose many of the hymns they love.

-- Leave a lifetime of denial in many areas of their physical and emotional life. This often requires them to face a number of issues that they had been able to sweep under the metaphysical rug during their years in CS. If you would like to see see some of the problems that former CSist face, browse the threads in the category entitled Recovery and Health Issues and read the first post in the various categories.

Is coming to Christ worth the cost? Absolutely.

The exact prompt is:

Theme: What will it cost them to come to Christ's. -Convert to Christanity

We are also to go and visit a religious service and visitor center and interview at least 4 people.
