Dear Greek to me,

I will follow my doctor's recomendations. I was concerned about having to get the shot for small pox because of the media hype lately. I may have to get it because of my health problems and that is why I am concerned with it. My biggest concern is that the shot is said to have complications for those who have never had one. I will let you know what my doctor says after my appointment on the 21st.
May God Bless You all.

click here: meningitis shots required, Penn State students

The above link will be of interest to "Anonymous," who started this thread, and shows how serious meningitis can be, and what some colleges are doing to prevent it. Remember, it was meningitis that killed young Matthew Swan. Doug and Rita Swan subsequently left cs and started up C.H.I.L.D.

Regarding smallpox vacination: I will take it, because I am a "first responder" and would be among the first exposed to this. I encourage others to take it, (1) for their personal protection, (2) for their families' protection, and (3) because it is one less weapon that can be used against our country. Of those who take it, less than 1% will have complications, and of those with complications, far less than 1% will die. Individually, the odds are favorable, but in a population of over 200 million doses, we will suffer several tens of thousands of deaths, which makes it a tragic and costly necessity.

Therefore: for the large majority of people, it is a wise decision to take it. But there are exceptions and bigma 9876 may well be one. Individuals with other health issues should learn, think and pray over this, and consult with their physicians. But the more of us who get vaccinated against these things, the more secure bigma9876 and similar cases will be, because there will be fewer carriers of the disease, and our country will be less vulnerable to bio-attack.

Many of us brought up in cs enjoyed the benefits of mass vaccinations in the general population. For example, the salk vaccine virtually eliminated polio, and lots of cs kids were safer. Safer, but not protected! Then you had the Daycroft (Greenwich, CT, around 1973) epidemic, and several kids were crippled because of it. When cs people cluster together, there is a mass vulnerability, like a concentration of infantry getting hit with a single artillery shell.

Those of you out of cs: get your shots FOR EVERYTHING, even if you might have had them sometime before. Better safe than sorry! But be an informed patient, as many vaccinations have risks and side effects. Even if problems are rare, we want to be alert to problems.

Those of you who are still in cs: the reduction of communicable diseaes in the general population DOES off you a greater degree of protection, so pleae don't credit metaphysics. Remember there are individual exceptions, and sometimes tragic, collective exceptions. (Check with C.H.I.L.D's webside for some.) I genuinely wish you a long healthy life, because we Christians are not to gloat over others' misfortunes, and we know that

"The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness
but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish,
but for all to come to repentance." (2 Peter 3.9)
