I am probably the contributor who is most guilty of overquoting others. I learned early in my experiences on the forums to ensure some means of making sure people knew to what I was responding.

Quoting other contributors, however, should be used judiciously to remain relevant and to demonstrate context. The new forum software makes it quite easy to over do it using the "Quote" reply feature. It's a convenient feature, but it too may be edited to include only the relevant portions of messages.

I'd like to suggest that contributors consider the relevancy and context of their use of quotes. It's quite easy to see the full messages and all that really needs to be repeated are the portions to which you wish to draw attention for your response.

When you quote someone's remarks from another post, PLEASE highlight the quoted material in some way so that it will be clearly distinguished from your own comments.

Here are some suggestions for highlighting a quote:

Use quotation marks like "this."

Use highlighting, bold print, or italics by enclosing the quoted text in the appropriate commands:

For bold text: [bold]text[/bold] (NOTE: use b instead of the word bold in the brackets)

For highlighted text: [highlight]text[/highlight] (Use h instead of the word highlight in the brackets)

For italics: [italics]text[/italics] (Use i instead of italics in the brackets)
