This particularly meant avoiding other books on CS, such as Herbert W. Eustace's Christian Science: Its Clear Correct Teaching. This viewpoint is somewhat presented by MBE in Misc. 91:21-93:5 and Chapter II of Miscellany (especially My 111:11-14 and 112:24-27). That is not to say that MBE did not expect greater practical demonstrations of Truth beyond her own, just that she held very tight control over the interpretation of Divine Science used by her students.

Dave

RE: Study beyond what Mrs. Eddy has studied?

I'll ask around for a citation.

But I can certainly say that this was the distinct feeling that I got being raised in C.S., and I took it as proof that C.S. wasn't a "cult". I even used the logic that looking elsewhere for truth is "consistent with Christian Science" on my wife!

Birdstrike

Study beyond what Mrs. Eddy has studied?

Can anyone verify whether Mrs. Eddy said that she wants her followers to "go beyond what she has studied and to grow more on our own"? (The wording isn't right, but that's the basic idea.) Someone wrote asking me about this and I can't remember any such instruction from MBE. I told the person who wrote me that I'd ask you all about it.:D
