Hi, friends:
Just a quick note to say that my friend Patrick Hadden, who was battling a recurrence of the child cancer neuroblastoma, passed away Thursday at 2:20 p.m. ET.
Patrick was such a fighter to the end; I was glad to say goodbye to him Wednesday afternoon, especially after his parents thought he was going to die the previous night.
I spent 15 minutes alone with Patrick and recounted some of the funny stories I treasure from his short life of 8 years and almost 3 months. Even though Patrick was heavily medicated, I think on some level he knew I was in the room. It was excruciatingly painful to see him in such a condition, as he was so near death. Only three days earlier, on Sunday, some of his cousins and I watched Patrick's two favourite Tom & Jerry cartoons (Baby Butch and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Mouse). On Wednesday, I held his hand the whole time and at the end of my visit I stood at the end of his bed and said, "Patrick, thanks for eight-plus great years, absolute joy."
Much thanks to all of you at christianway.org for your kind words and prayers for Patrick. He has no more pain. I'm sure he's playing street hockey in heaven right now. I said to his parents and many of his friends that I know we'll see Patrick again someday. I have absolute faith in that.
He was such a great person, and I was glad to be his "Uncle" Garey. I think his identical twin, Logan, is going to be fine. I know I'll always remember Patrick and on most days, I'll think: "I wonder what Patrick's doing in heaven today?"

So sorry to hear about Patrick, Garey. Thanks for letting us know.
You have been a wonderful 'uncle' to him. May God bless you and also Patrick's family.

Hi, friends:
Monday is the third anniversary of the passing of my friend Patrick. I thought you might like to see this video of his life. He was a special friend, and I know he's in good hands in Heaven. I can't wait to see him again!

It's OK to shed a tear or two. That's what grieving is all about. But I remember the great times with him.

| What a wonderful video, Garey. How's Patrick's family doing -- especially his twin?

Linda:
Thanks for the kind words. It's a great video. I probably watch it at least monthly. I really love hearing his voice and seeing him score a goal against NHL players and on table hockey. Such joy!
Logan is doing extremely well. He's 11 now and entering Grade 6. He's already wearing size 8 adult shoes (I'm 9-91/2 depending on the shoe). He's not that much shorter than me either. He's a well-rounded boy who plays all sports, but his favorites are hockey and soccer.
Sometimes when he laughs, I swear Patrick is in the room -- the laugh is so similar. A great way to remind me of Patrick. Janet and David are doing OK, all things considered. I try to mention Patrick quite often, as it's nice to remember such a great friend. I still haven't had a day when I didn't think of him.
Guess he's had a great affect on me, huh? It'll be fun when I see him in Heaven someday (God willing!). What a great time that'll be.
Garey :-)
