Hi my name is Suzie. Both my mom & grandmother were readers in our church. I went to church faithfuly from the time i was a child till i turned 18yrs. of age. I did like the church, the stories in sunday school, the people were kind to me. My mother & grandmother on the other hand, were not. They were perfect when in the church, but at home, it was a very different story.I am 45yrs old today & am looking for God. I heve joined A.A. for my alcoholism & am looking for my higher power. Do i take it from all that is being said on these pages that i should not be looking back at this religion? Ifeel more confused now. Am looking for answers if anyone could help i am waiting patiently.
once a believer.

| Welcome, Suzie, You're right -- CS is not the place to go. The Bible is very different than you were taught in CS. Salvation is a free gift through Jesus Christ, not something to be attained through "understanding" one's "perfection." I'd be happy to talk with you privately (feel free to "private message" me) or to discuss things here if you'd prefer. Linda

Hi Suzie!
Welcome to our forums. I pray that you will find some answers here.
Coming out of Christian Science, I too was blessed by the 12-Step programs from Adult Children of Alcoholics to Naranon as well as A.A. and N.A. Through the programs and the people I met in the rooms, I came to understand the real meaning of the Gospel. Stick with the program one day at a time, one step at a time. It works and I'm sure you know your choices by now.

Suzie, Sorry about your mom and grandmother. I have met some of the very best and the very worst examples of humanity in Christian Science churches. And I can understand the attraction to the good experiences you had with kind people in church. Despite what appears to be good and helpful in Christian Science, I believe the 'reality' and religion it presents are false. That said, I have to add, the search for God is an individual journey, and you have to go where He leads you. The good news is: God is looking for you! There is a book I love, written by Henri Nouwen, called "The Return of the Prodigal Son." He focuses on Jesus' parable and the Rembrandt painting inspired by it to explore how we can identitfy with each of the main characters- the prodigal, the elder son, and even the Father. It is a beautifully written witness to God as Love. As Jesus described in the parable, our Father, God is waiting patiently for each of us, and He will run out to meet us when he see's us turning to him --even from a far distance. I know that God is finding you, and I pray that you will find a new and loving church home. God bless you on your way.
