| Shouldn't this discussion be moved to the topic regarding the closing of churches? Anyway, 90 to 100 in membership is eyepopping for a CS church! My theory is that it is CALIFORNIA ......a state known for it's .....well....... "differences". Lots of wierd stuff and people there, so I hear!! Ok, nobody get offended, what I meant was. It seems to be a population that is more tolerent of "far out" ideas...like CS, Scientology, etc.

Yep, it should be. How about anyone wanting to continue commenting on the closing of CS churches pick it up in the
"CS - General Discussion Not Related to Doctrine » CS Churches Closing - Why?" thread?

CS healings fall into a number of distinct categories.
First there are those healings that take place as a result of the body's immune system doing its job. Prime examples are those healings of the common cold. A CS practitioner can heal a cold through study and "prayer," (CSist do have a unique concept of prayer.). It generally takes about a week. Most non-CSists naturally get over a cold in about seven days, give or take. The difference is that the average person says, "I got over my cold," whereas the CSist says, "I had a CS healing.
A second category is that of CSists who suffer from chronic ailments that tend to go into periods of remission. CSists frequently have CS healings of IBS, arthritis, allergies, ulcers, psoriasis etc. There is no such thing as a CS healing of pancreatic cancer, severe coronary disease, hepatitis, juvenile diabetes, etc.
A third, and very popular form of healing is the healing of a self-diagnosed illness. In this category, hayfever becomes lung cancer, eczema becomes skin cancer, a twisted ankle becomes a compound fracture. Sure enough, study you S&H and your Bible and you are healed of these dread diseases, which, of course, you never had.
We must keep in mind that the "Materia Medica" and the practice of the physician's art that MBE railed against was a primitive thing, and in fact, it is possible that CS had as good a rate of success as conventional medicine AT THAT TIME. The difference is that CS has all the answers, whereas the physician searched for the answers. Medicine progressed and continues to do so. CS relies instead on half-baked, deeply flawed and completely illogical philosophical constructs. In the process, children die at the hands of CS practitioners.
My wife came within a week of being one of those innocent victims. IT WAS NOT THE FAULT OF HER FLAWED THINKING! It was her "flawed" thinking that saved her life.
My most fervent dream is that the CS Church will continue to lose members until no child will have to suffer physically as my wife did, and mentally, as she continues to suffer.
Does medicine have all the answers? Of course not. Medicine is a search for the answers. Christian Science (what an ironic name for this religion! It should be called Christian Anti-Science.), by having all the answers, has none.
Even most atheists would generally agree that at its best, a religion should provide support, community and comfort in trying times. CS provides none of this. Instead it provides chastisement and criticism of the afflicted because all illness is error which means your thinking is wrong. You are making yourself sick. May this frightening vision of Christianity die a swift and quiet death.
