American Express Partners in Preservation is a $10 million, five-year commitment to historic preservation that will increase public awareness of the importance of historic preservation in the United States and around the world. This commitment will help protect historic and cultural landmarks and will strengthen local communities. It is a joint effort between American Express, the National Trust for Historic Preservation and the World Monuments Fund. This year, the American Express Partners in Preservation initiative in the U.S. will focus on the Bay Area.
You can log in and vote for your choice of sites to receive $1 million for historic renovations. The top 5 winners as of today include the First Church of Christ Scientist Berkeley, Angel Island Immigration Center, Fox Oakland Theater, Pigeon Point Lighthouse Station, and Outdoor Art Club.
One of the requirements is "Community Impact: The project should have demonstrated community support, and should have the potential to contribute to tourism or community development. " I do not believe that the CS church will do this at all. I have received emails from CS friends and the nationwide CS community is logging in every day to vote for the church to win the money.
So I am logging in every day to vote for other sites. Registration is free and you can vote once a day until Oct. 31st. You do not have to live in the Bay area to vote. Please join if you feel so inclined.

| What a great website. The only thing is, it reminds me that I truly did leave my heart in San Francisco (which will have me depressed all day). The Church is presently #1? There must be more CSists out there than we thought or maybe Berkeleyites having their say.

| So you are thwarting the results of a poll because you don't like the religion? You should do some reading about architecture and the Bay Area. Have you ever heard of Bernard Maybeck?

| I'm trying to figure out how the purpose of a Christian website overlaps with this idea about this church in Berkeley. I get it. Paul said something about how it's bad for men to have long hair?

| Too bad, Mr. Stack-the-deck/Stuff-the-ballot-box Anonymous. The Berkeley CS Church stayed the course, remained on top, and won the prize at end. Voting is over.
