The other day in my email, I received a full report from the board of trustees with all the details about what is going on at prin, and it follows pretty much what the previous poster wrote. I bet many alumni received this document. It was a 7 page PDF file. Private message me if you would like more information on this. I graduated prin in 2002.

ok, first of all, michael [insult removed by moderator] i know you in person and you dont know what is going on. second, here are the real facts, yes all the stuff that acon said are true, there is a lot of termoil going on. stuart jenkins is doing a lot of under the table operations. also i dont know if you guys know or not, but prin is thinking of developing almost half of the st. louis campus. stuart is doing a lot of behind the back and under the table actions on this development. in short, stuart needs to be relieved of his position, period. we need new leadership of someone who is not going to tear apart principia. and i think that it is very sad that you are happy to "finally be through with christian science". and michael, dont post anything unless your really know the facts. got it, and if you have any questions, please just ask, i will be more than willing to answer.

Prinfan,
why do you deny my comments but not others...
Stick to facts and not personal insults. Ad hominem arguments add nothing to your position.

Prinfan,

Perhaps we have a difference regarding the nature of facts. Calling other posters names or making insinuations about their past that have no bearing on the discussion are inappropriate and will not be tolerated. You may want to review the definition of ad hominen.

I recently found this thread as I constantly look for old friends here and elsewhere on the internet. As for the many Principia alums here, thank you for your continued prayers and support for Principia. Whether or not you have remained a Christian Scientist or not has no bearing on your status as a Principian. You are always welcome at your alma mater.
As a member of the Principia Alumni Association Board I would encourage all of you to go to the Prin trustee web pages (noted in earlier posts) and read the report written by Jim Reeves. Mr Reeves is a mediator who was hired by the school to work with a Resolution Committee to help resolve some of the major issues Principia has been grappling with over the past nine months. That committee was made up of faculty and staff from both campuses, students, trustees and alumni. The report is nearly 30 pages and I believe it gives quite a bit of insight into the Principia community, exposing warts many of us have been unwilling to deal with for decades.
After interviewing 64 faculty and staff members, looking at 1500 pages of documents and reading thousands of additional e-mails, his conclusions were not a surprise. There is no factual evidence to support any claim that George Moffett was forced to resign as college president, by Stuart Jenkins or anyone else. Not surprisingly, Elaine Follis wrote an open letter to the Pilot months ago stating "for the record" she was not forced to leave either. Furthermore Mr. Reeves found no evidence that the CEO, Stuart Jenkins ever asked for asked for or knew about the board's decision to give him a raise until after it was done. As a former educator myself I polled a number of small independent schools around the country that I have ties with, and they all laughed at the CEO's previous salary. His new salary was to be quite average for someone who oversees 1400 students on two campuses (one of which is a small college) with a budget in excess of $60M.
What is interesting to me about the Reeves report is its finding of three major problems at Principia that are the real root of all these problems. First, Principia has had no strategic plan for decades. That's why folks go nuts when they hear things like the possibility of land development on parts or all of its St. Louis campus. Folks, we can't stand in the way of progress. Time marches on whether or not we have a plan for coping with it. At maximum capacity that school will only ever use 250 acres of the 360 acres it owns. What should be done with that additional acreage? Could it be used to finance the construction of a new middle school which is sorely needed. How will new athletic facilities be paid for. What do you do about the on campus housing situation?
Second, Mr. Reeves points out that Principia has developed a culture of dysfunctional politeness. Nobody talks about the 900lb elephant in the room for fear of appearing unloving or worse un-Christian. For years, nobody got fired at Prin because nobody had the courage to tell someone that they were doing a horrible job. For 40 years there has been no formal review process for faculty at the college. How is that possible? Nobody airs any dirty laundry under the guise of being kind, so all decisions are made behind closed doors fueling even more gossip and rumor. The truth never gets out (truthatprincipia.org being the classic example) so opinion and hearsay pass for facts.
Finally, Mr. Reeves points out that there are governance issues that have to be resolved because tradition says that educators have always run the school, and Stuart Jenkins is a businessman, not your traditional educator. Should the CEO run the business side and let educators run the two schools? How does the board fit into all of this?
It was clear to anyone paying attention that the hiring of Stuart Jenkins was to be a catalyst for much needed change at Principia. That change has been uncomfortable for some, and a welcome breath of fresh air for others. The Jim Reeves report should be a wake up call to all those who love Principia. That the resolution committee would not admit to the evidence of this report is alarming and shows that there is still much animosity to be healed. You are all entitled to your opinion, please just identify them as such. Thank you for allowing me to post this here in your forum.
