Sugar-coated attacks, especially those that aren't accurate don't belong here. I suspect your attack is not against me but against Christianity. So, thank you for the blessing (last Beatitude). For the record, I've never claimed to be perfect or to have the only right way of doing things or thinking.
I do believe it's the duty and privilege of every ex-CSer to share what worked for them in their journey to a better place. That's part of what this site appears to be about. You yourself encouraged me to keep writing, so that's what I'm doing.
Shall we get back to the thread? I'd love to hear what you and everyone else feels about this topic. That's why I pulled it up from the archives.

CS is Christian Science
CSist is Christian Scientist
S&H is Science & Health with Key to the Scriptures (the Christian Science textbook)
MBE is Mary Baker Eddy (found of Christian Science and author of Science & Health)
TMC is The Mother Church (the "headquarters" church of Christian Science)
CSM is Christian Science Monitor (the church's international news organization)

Anyone think of other common abbreviations we use here?

Thanks! That explains a lot.

I just have a quick question. I've been looking in the bible and on other sites and I can't seem to find the scripture that says somewhere along the lines of.... no matter what religion you are as long as you believe in God, his word and have been born again you will be welcomed into the gates of heaven. I know thats not the exact wording. Just going from memory.

Thanks....God Bless

Any chance you are thinking of Matthew 7:12-23?

So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets. Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.

Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit. A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a diseased tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus you will recognize them by their fruits.

Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?' And then will I declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.'

I'm sorry to hear that you wasted so much of your life in a religion that you did not understand and did nothing for you. I was raised in Christian Science, raised 3 kids in it and had healings of every thing that has needed healing physically and in relationships, business, financial etc. In all my upbringing (and both my parents are staunch practicing Christian Scientists) I was never raised to be afraid of medicine or hospitals and have always had the understanding that if I find myself in a situation that I cannot meet spiritually- I must do something.  Just recently a dear Member of our local church had unexpected surgery. As soon as anyone in the church found out they sent cards and flowers and made calls of encouragement. The member told me that his family (non CS) were so impressed with all the love and support that was shown and in fact those were the only cards etc. he received.  I'm not going to waste a lot of time writing all of the wonderful things I have experienced because I sense that this site is really for false Christians just trying to push their own personal views and will trash any set of beliefs that do not fit in their narrow opinions.

cs4me,

Welcome to our forums. Hope you will join in the discussions.

I'm sorry to hear that you wasted so much of your life in a religion that you did not understand and did nothing for you.

Perhaps as you explore and read the messages posted here you will get to know us better. Quite a few of us spent decades in Christian Science, are class taught, were multi-generational Christian Scientists, and were acknowledged to have a strong, clear understanding of Christian Science. Sorry to jump on that right away, but so many Christian Scientists come here and make the immediate false assumption that we did not understand Christian Science or have only shallow experience with it.

I was raised in Christian Science, raised 3 kids in it and had healings of every thing that has needed healing physically and in relationships, business, financial etc. In all my upbringing (and both my parents are staunch practicing Christian Scientists).

Like you, I was raised in Christian Science. I was a third generation Christian Scientist and experienced what I then believed were Christian Science healings. I also experienced some tragic consequences of the abuse of Christian Science. As you scan our archives, you may notice that I distinguish between the fallacies of Christian Science teaching and the adulteration of Christian Science teachings.

I was never raised to be afraid of medicine or hospitals and have always had the understanding that if I find myself in a situation that I cannot meet spiritually- I must do something.

I'm glad that your experience in Christian Science did not include the fear and loathing of medicine that most of us experienced and by which Christian Science is publicly characterized.

Just recently a dear Member of our local church had unexpected surgery. As soon as anyone in the church found out they sent cards and flowers and made calls of encouragement. The member told me that his family (non CS) were so impressed with all the love and support that was shown and in fact those were the only cards etc. he received.

The compassion shown the member of your church was indeed wonderful and appropriate. I did not experience such acts of compassion during my more than 30 years in Christian Science in several areas of the world. By the way, I could also share with you tales of horror regarding any number of other organizations and also no longer support them or never did.

I'm not going to waste a lot of time writing all of the wonderful things I have experienced because I sense that this site is really for false Christians just trying to push their own personal views and will trash any set of beliefs that do not fit in their narrow opinions.

You are welcome to join our discussions, but please respect our experience and motives as most of us will try to respect yours. Stating assumptions regarding wasting time, false Christianity, and narrow opinions are, frankly, rude. Maybe that was not your intent and merely a consequence of the sterility of online communication.

Narrow opinions may have some validity, however, in the context of the Bible verse I quoted above, "Enter by the narrow gate." You are welcome to Biblically support your arguments that go beyond "personal sense". When solely based in personal sense, these discussions get rather boring, unproductive, and strained.

I just can't get it through my head why these people who are so satisfied with CS come on this site. It just doesn't sound well intended and tolerant to me the way most truly satisfied CSers are. It just sounds so much like the few who post here have a big old ax to grind for some reason. And they all sound pretty much alike to me, kind of defensiveness with thinly disguised insults. Frankly they don't sound like CSists to me, because most real CSists speak extremely sweet, lovingly, intellectual and polite.

I suspect that you're right that at least some of them are the same person. We have a guy who still visits occassionally who has obvious delusions regarding this site and/or our host.

The disturbing posts to which you refer represent to me how there are two schools of Christian Science. There are the teachings of Mary Baker Eddy and the culture of Christian Science. Both generally deviate from God's word, but I have the greatest difficulty with those who also deviate from Mary Baker Eddy's teachings. They falsely practise the teachings of a false teacher.

Hi cs4me,

I'm sorry to hear that you wasted so much of your life in a religion that you did not understand and did nothing for you. ....  I'm not going to waste a lot of time writing all of the wonderful things I have experienced because I sense that this site is really for false Christians just trying to push their own personal views and will trash any set of beliefs that do not fit in their narrow opinions.

Not everyone on this site has wasted our lives on a religion we did not understand.  I was a 4th generation CS, my dad worked at HQ, and I did understand and experience wonderful things.  I understood it well enough that I was becoming more active in it...working w/ VA state Committee on Pubs and was two weeks away from flying out to Idaho for Class Instruction.  I was heading towards becoming a practitioner.  What brought all that to a full stop was a challenge to read the Bible in the original languages where it specifically states Jesus is God not just Godlike.  I could get around alot of the Christian theology but I just could not get past the Greek grammar of the Bible stating clearly that Jesus is in fact God.  If it is a narrow opinion promoted by false Christians then I am in good company because it was the Apostles Peter and Paul making that statement, and it's been the truth held by Christians during its 2000 years of Christian history.

As far as your sensing bitterness from some of the folks on this site. There are people on this site who have had a much lousier time with CS than I ever had, and they have some pretty deep wounds to show for it.  Please pardon their bitterness.  They did not enjoy the results you have listed and being told their pain resulted from wasting their time on a religion they just didn't understand does not help them towards healing.  How will you as a successful CS, take the people in pain on this web site and move them from pain to wholeness?  How will you change them from wasting their lives on a religion they don't understand to a religion they do understand that is not wasting their lives?  Read the Greek and figure out how to heal the people in pain on this site and I think you will begin to understand where we are coming from.

Jim
