| Does anyone know anything about the new hymnal supplement? I wonder what new songs are included and if they are modern contemporary tunes, how much they had to "edit" it to "spiritualize" them. I can't believe they finally realized that after 100 plus years, they needed some fresh tunes!! The contemporary Christian tunes were so uplifting to me after leaving the church, I couldn't believe I had missed them all those years. I doubt they will use one of my favorites, "Shout to the Lord" because it begins with "My Jesus, my Savior, Lord there is none like You"... How different my life would have been if I could have been humming those lines for comfort instead of reading the vague nonsense in S&H , trying to tie it into the Bible and beating "Shepherd Show Me How to Go" to death.

| We've touched on the matter of music some time ago. You might find an older thread of interest: http://www.christianway.org/forums/Topic4114-15-1.aspx?Highlight=christmas+hymn Music is a language, and language is a powerful tie--it helps define us, and determine our associations, loyalties, and so on. So, just as I encourage people to break away from the King James, I also urge people avoid CS music as part of the spiritual and emotional "exiting." So, whereas "praise"music ain't my thing (er, ...'ugh!'), if it gives you a fresher, different attitude to your authentic Christian experience...go for it!

Gentle Dove,
The only thing I can find regarding a new hymnal supplement is a reference on the TMC site regarding Annual Meeting:
Sunday, June 1, 4:15-5:00 pm EDT
Hymn sing in Original Edifice of The Mother Church. Join together to celebrate the introduction of ten new hymns that will be included in a new Christian Science Hymnal Supplement! These beautiful, fresh expressions of song are uplifting and inspiring. Raise your voices in song with fellow church members in the Original Edifice for a 45-minute hymn sing. “It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High:…” (Psalms 92).
They will probably announce it at Annual Meeting with great fanfare about staying current with the times. I remember talking with my peers more than 40 years ago about how outdated the CS Hymnal was. Larry Groce was the best thing we had going in that era, but he didn't come along until 1970.

Toward the end of the article:
During a hymn sing on June 1, the congregation raised their voices in a sample of new songs from a hymnal supplement due out this fall from The Christian Science Publishing Society. The compositions, ranging in style from folk to gospel, will be the first additions to the Christian Science Hymnal since 1932.
