Hey everyone,
I live in NYC and would like to find or start an x-cs support group.
Does anyone know of any or would be interested in starting one?
thanks!

Hi! I'm not far from you: just up the Metro North a little. Next County.
What did you have in mind?
You might find this surprising, but some ex-CS found their way to Salvation Army's ministry activities, and Ladies' Home Leagues and things like that. One goal SA has had since its inception was to help re-unite estranged people to their original churches, and help those who'd never had a Christian Church home FIND theirs. For those who don't want to look any further, SA is glad to welcome them. They seem to say no evil about any denomination. If I had to track them, I'd have to say they come from the lines of Wesleyan Methodist, but have morphed a little bit.
That's a sidetrack, though. Sorry about that. Might come in handy to know about, depending on who comes out of the woodwork.
Since my husband and (now adult) kids went through the journey with me, I can't say but some of them might be interested in a meeting too. Their toughest parts, I'd guess, had to do with dealing with my folks.
Well, I'm sure there's a lot to talk about, and questions to ask. I'm sure we can come up with something if you're for real. I have to warn you in advance, though, I'm not the leader type. Contributing is about all! And life is a little hectic, as we get our second through the rest of Senior year, and onto college. That leaves one still at home.

thanks,Jen!
Let's see who else replies and where people are located.
I just came out of CS in the last couple of months and have read a couple of helpful books, but there's nothing like talking with people who have been there.
Let's see what happens...
thanks.

| Rita Swans group does have a meeting of XCS every year. I think the next one is in July.

Rita Swans group does have a meeting of XCS every year. CHILD, Inc. has sponsored a support group meeting every summer for the past 19 years. (It's for members of CHILD; dues are only about $25 per year.) The meetings can be really helpful.

For starters, Anonymous, if you were to log into this site, with some sort of pen name, people could write you back if you messaged them. Names don't have to be revealing anything about you. It might be a way to test the waters of a group here, before going in for an in-person group locally.
To be honest, I don't know much about starting any kind of groups. I'm open to it, just not experienced. (College projects don't count, in my mind!) I like the common courtesy kind of ground rules, that keep it a relatively safe environment. No one wants to open themselves up to harsh criticism or abuse, of course.
I've asked my family and they're not really likely to be interested themselves, but don't mind at all if I'm out to lunch now and then (so to speak)!
bye for now!
