SERIOUSLY!
Here is an article from spirituality.com about a couple of poor little pets (Rocky and Jack) that where healed by Christian Science. I think the MC is getting desperate, do they think these types of articles will draw people to the church? I would think they would leave them laughing in the isles. I remember, in my family growing up, we too where quite accomplished pet healers. Oh well, better pets than children.

The subject of CS treatment for pets came up when I was recently talking with a group of former Chrisitian Scientists. Some of them said that, when they were children, the pets in their families had received medical care even while they received only CS treatment. The kids suffered a lot.

Actually, I think any CS healing (real or perceived) is considered equally precious as it represents a demonstration of "Truth." Sigh...

I may be wrong, but knowing many people who put their relationships with their pets on a par with people (or even beyond that), I think anything that might claim to help them (pets) would be grasped at by a certain element of folks out there who are not familiar with CS. You may remember Leona Helmsley, I believe, left millions in her estate to care for her pets when she was gone. Much as I love our family cat -did that make sense? Extreme pet lovers are a different breed.

I take my pets to the vet and pray for them. I do not fault Christian Scientists for pursuing their best sense of care for their pets. They just don't understand.

I used to pray to heal my pets when I was growing up. However, we also took them to the vet, as I never heard of CS prayer effectively spaying my cat.

Linda,
Good point! Our pets did get vaccinations, yearly check ups and vet care for various things over years, however we kids NEVER received any medical care. How crazy is that.

The story of  my CS in-laws lives and deaths was repeated in the life and death of one of their pets.  The dog had a growth on its leg.  They did nothing but pray, for months, until the growth became so huge the pet was totally incapacited by the sheer size of it.  THEN they took it to the vet.  But alas, at that point it was too late.

Sadly, that pretty much describes what happened to them too.

"I never heard of CS prayer effectively spaying my cat."

Not to make light of suffering in any way...but this did make me laugh outloud.  I remember a CS friend in college who was praying to be healed of her monthly cycle.  I knew it would be considered 'wrong' to pray this way in CS, but it had a certain irony to it that gave me an early insight into the absurdity of the idea that matter was unreal.

Dear I.J.

I read about your college friend praying about her monthly cycle. When she goes through menapause, do you think she will claim a healing?

I remember a woman giving a testimony about being healed of nausea each day ... mortal mind would come back each morning but she would read S&H and it would be healed.  You guessed it ... morning sickness.
