Anonymous October 23, 2009 @ 11:47:00 AM,
Interesting story and ironic to see an implied defense of the original text of Science & Health from an organization that teaches the flaws of the Bible upon which its textbook is allegedly based.

Oh my. The paperback version is $44.89. Even the Kindle version, which is usually less expensive, is $44.95. I ordered the free sample, but I think that's the extent I'm willing to invest in what appears to be a counterfeit edition of the counterfeit truth.

Folks:
Thought you might like to check out this story by Religion News Service about Cheryl Petersen, a Christian Scientist who has rewritten Science and Health.
It's about time that Mary Baker Eddy, TMC, and Science and Health got a dose of their own medicine!!! (No pun intended). Why shouldn't someone reword or rewrite S&H. After all, that's what MBE did with the Bible. Apparently, this author is still trying to preserve the integrity of MBE's message. True justice would dictate that S&H be rewritten, keep its name, and the word definitions and message changed to be the true Gospel message of the Bible which it perverted in the first place.

Yes! And Christian Scientists are NOT HAPPY.
I heard a lot of buzz about the book a year ago when I left CS.
I think it 's great:a further chipping away of a destructive cult.

It made me laugh that one reviewer who is evidently a Christian Scientist, says there is a CURSE on anyone who changes God's words (which evidently the reviewer thinks S&H is). Never before met a CS who believed in curses!
As long as the new 21st century version is identified as such, who cares? Well, who cares anyway?

| Do you think she was excommunicated for this? I think but I am not sure that my mother (who was a 35+ year journal listed practitioner) was excommunicated, I know the CS church does excommunicated people, but I have rarely heard about it.

| Someone commented to a review, (I clicked on, see all my reviews) that said she had no right to change the original! OMG, dont they know MBE did that, i mean seriously!

| Cheryl Petersen is the sister of Evan Mehlenbacher who is a CS Lecturer, Practitioner, etc. When I was in CS I really liked Mehlenbacher and thought his articles and talks very effective. Petersen’s book uses the NIV for Bible quotes. At one time you could find links to Petersen’s book on CSDirectory.com which is run by Mark Mohlenbrock. Mohlenbrock seems to be running the CS Movement these days. I just looked and can’t find any links to Petersen’s book on CSDirectory.com. Even the most renegade CSers I know either don’t know about the book or have not read or purchased it. I’d be suspicious of any book that costs so much! But Petersen did write the book in conjunction with a medical doctor, so the two of them really want to get money off this book. I’d rather have The Mother Church revise S&H rather than any individual, if there is a need. I haven’t heard anyone in CS say the last edition written by MBE is outdated. TMC has revised the Hymnal but overall most CSers I know, even CS youth, don’t like the new Hymnal, or rather new Hymnal supplement.
