wow! amazing so many responded to this subject.. Who cares? So someone reworded Eddy's textbook. Why are so many of you still reading and rereading s&h and it's contemporary revision? ? I'm amazed at how many so called ex- csers still have the darn book and are so interested in all of its intricate details. The attrection to cs is still alive even in those who swear it is evil.

too harsh?
where are all of you when someoe asks for help here?

You are reading a lot into people's interest in S&H and CS in general. People have lots of reasons for remaining interested in CS, the CS culture, its books, etc. It's not necessarily a sign of evil attraction or of failure.

-- Remaining interested doesn't necessarily equate with "attraction." It's OK to be interested in the details of something that was part of one's life, especially if one still has friends or loved ones involved in it.
-- It's also OK to watch with academic (non-emotional) interest as the CS Movement continues to go downhill. It's even OK to watch with a sense of satisfaction.
-- Some people try to remain current regarding CS attitudes and practices in an attempt to help others.
-- Some people find it helpful to understand CS -- past and present -- as they work to break its hold on them.

With all due respect, it's none of your (or my) business why people choose to respond to one post and not another.

Born free,

I get it.  You burned your books.  You felt good about it.  I am geniunely happy that you received such a comfort from that symbolic act --a kind of cathartic release.  But you should realize it was personal: it worked for you and a few others. But....
You might want to consider this: burning books is not a panacea, and in truth, it is more of a placebo.  You see, you did not really destroy anything, and believe me, I am not speaking metaphysically here.  Books really are mere material representations of the ideas they express.  Beyond all the ink and paper, the bits and bytes of electronic media, and the very words themselves, you still have ideas, concepts, and philosophies.  If you want to destroy a book, you need to refute the ideas it espouses. That is what happens to some degree here.

From what I have seen here, people do get help when they ask for it; sometimes, even before they ask.  I know some of your posts have been focused on helping others.  Is there something I missed?

Peace, my friend

Just noting that more people respond to this sort of thing than I've seen respond to other posts. I know I asked for some ideas concerning how to relate to Jesus in a personal way and didn't see this sort of response.

I'm beginning to see that people say they are through with cs but then hang around anything related to it and dwell on it a lot. Myself included, since I am haunting this forum. But I actually came here in order to find help in throwing off all the cs garbage and to find a healthy ,working faith in God through Jesus....not dig deeper into it's workings. I can't relate to wanting to browse cs literature and cs sites in order to be up on the latest in cs craziness. Cs dominated so much of my life I want to move away from it.

But I see I was a little grumpy in my post last night. Sorry. I guess linda is right. It's none of my business why people post here. If you want to stay in touch with all things cs while argueing against it, so be it. I just think maybe we are facinated by it and not in a good way. It still holds some of us captive.

born free,

I think I can do a better job "arguing against" a topic when I have my facts and quotes correct. That's a major reason I keep the CS books around and keep tabs on what's going on in the CS world. I try to base my opinions and arguments on facts rather than on conjecture -- I want to be as accurate as possible. This desire to "keep my facts straight" is also why I stick close to the Bible when forming opinions about Christianity, my relationship with Jesus, etc. If the Bible is our primary source of information about Jesus, it makes sense to know what the Bible says about him.

I know you didn't feel that we helped you on the personal relationship with God thread you refer to above, but several of us did reach out to you. Zoarean, followingHim, and I really did try to help, but I get the feeling you didn't consider Zoarean and me to be "helping" since you didn't agree with what we were saying (since we believe the Bible and consider it foundational to our relationship to God). That shouldn't negate the fact that we DID reach out to help you.
