Too bad we only have your side of the story. But then this goes on all the time around here.
Any Christian Scientist who has a story regarding the meeting of physical needs during a disaster is quite welcome to post their story. I wish it were possible to gather all those to whom I referred in a room and talk out what happened. It would also be interesting for them to post their side of my story, however, due to anonymity I would not confirm or deny it was the same event.
How have you responded to the Haiti earthquake? What was your response to Hurricane Katrina? Did you provide aid and assistance to flood victims? Can you provide references to Christian Science periodicals with articles documenting disaster relief efforts of Christian Science churches or individual Christian Scientists? I would hope there are many such stories. As you indicate, I can only offer my side of the story.
BTW, rather than calling attention to the obvious bias of my story, you might have considered discussion of the Christian Science side of the story regarding the current disaster. For example, christianscience.com has an article requesting prayers and providing a link for contributions to Haiti relief. spirituality.com has a featured theme, "Prayer--a ready aid in times of natural disaster". Have you responded?

For our 'beloved leader' to make claims about how practical cs is in her 'textbook' and then make no provision in her church for weddings and funerals is so absurdly impractical! I suspect the biggest issue regarding marriages in CS churches is that Readers are not ordained and, thus, cannot legally perform marriages the way ordained ministers can. I do agree that CS is very "impractical" when it comes to meeting human needs regarding things like funerals and (both emotional and physical) disaster relief.

What record did Jesus leave for us to follow regarding these?

Linda
you illustrate my point concerning how impractical the cs church is when you point out that readers are not ordained so cannot legally perform weddings.
Eddy made no provision for the legal union of her devotees.
Anyone can get the required legal papers to perform weddings. I know a guy who doesn't even believe in god who is 'ordained' to perform legal marriage ceremonies and does it a couple times a year for those who want to marry but don't believe.
Even the non-believers provide loving services for each other.
To anonymous:
you've noted that cs churches do sometimes hold wedding or funeral services. That's commendable. Did the mother church have a funeral sevice or memorial service for Mrs Eddy when she died? Did anyone of her followers comfort her son or grandchildren?
I don't say cs ists are cold hearted. I say Eddy was cold hearted and saw no need to provide for the basic human need for love from each other. She left her followers with no avenue to get or receive love in their time of need becuase she believed this world to be 'below' god. She forgot (or never kmew) that Jesus came into this world to live with and share this 'mortal' life with men and women who need the comfort and compassion of human touch.

"I've noticed here before that when Christian Scientists relate a healing experience they're taken to task for not having or providing "proof"."
That's right!!! Extraordinary claims require hard evidence.
We are told to accept CS testimonies at face value.
I can't. 'Not because I think they are not sincerely made and believed. To the contrary.
The vast majority of CSist's are totally ignorant regarding anything related to medicine. So, how do they or a practitioner know if they been healed of a heart attack or severe indigestion? They don't, since they have no background to diagnose such things.
OK, what about instances where a physician has diagnosed an illness or injury prior to Christian Science treatment, and/or affirms afterwards that the malady has been healed?
Fine. Again, the Scientist or practitioner has no medical background so they can't say what natural or physical forces may have contributed to its relief (and I'm sure would never ask a physician "what helped clear this up"?) There are many explanations as to why scientists are "healed". Those steeped in the religion are not aware of them, and must attribute them to MBE and CS.

Would you consider any of these passages as examples of Jesus' practical record?

Does this requirement pertain to all posters here?

Would you consider any of these passages as examples of Jesus' practical record?
Matthew 14:13-21
Matthew 15:32-39
Matthew 7:12
John 21:15-19
Matthew 25:31-46
Sure would.
But I didn't see anything about funerals.
What about that?

the first one off the top of my head is his little referenc to the Samaritan who found the man left to die by the side of the road. He said the samaritan stopped, unlike the others, and helped the poor soul ....fed him, cleaned his wounds, etc.
another quick reference to Jesus's teaching on the subject is in Mattew when he points out that to feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, visit those in prison, etc. is the same as doing it to Him.And conversely , to not do these things for those who are in need is as if you also didn't do them for Him.
He didn't say look at those in trouble and tell them.........'ye suffering people..be thou clothed and fed'. Nor did he say charge them for your prayers! He said get your hands dirty and help them.
