As a former CS for 37 years and now an agnostic leaning towards atheism simply because I needed breathing room after being imprisoned by CS for so long,I would appreciate leaving out the put-downs on people like me that question the whole subject of religion and with good reason;I believed wholeheartedly in CS for too long and now see that it offers nothing.
I come here to read people's insights on CS and I understand that it is a Christian forum but agnostics and atheists are our brothers and sisters too.

Actually, I think atheism simply being contrasted with Christianity and/or belief in God in the above exchange rather than being "put down." From what I see, the poster is saying that atheism (non belief) is present because Christians have not sufficiently made the case for God's existence. That's more of a put-down of Christians than of nonbelievers.

I'm curious, Anonymous. During your time with CS, did you ever read the New Testament cover to cover? Or, was your knowledge and understanding of the Bible strictly what was shared in CS?

when i went through class instruction,we were told to read the bible cover to cover which i did, along with science and health.
i have been out of CS for almost one year and my view of the bible now is simply a book, written by men with their own opinions and bias.
i say this not to insult anyone but simply speaking how i feel right now.

Thank you very much for your response, Anonymous.
I completely understand where you are coming from and identify with you. When I cut my last ties to CS, I was an agnostic and pretty militant about it with friends and family. To say I was anti Christian would be an understatement.
I won't go into all the details, but several years later, a good friend who I respected suggested I read the New Testament cover to cover. I did, and discovered that "uninterpreted", what it shared had nothing to do with Christian Science.
Can I at least ask you to consider reading the NT cover to cover? You may remain right where you are, but you will have at least given the Bible a face value review on it's own merits. In doing so, don't go to church, don't go to a Bible study, don't pick up any denominational study guides, etc. Just read it on you own.
Respectfully,
John

it gets confusing when posts are from 'anonimous' as to which person is speaking and to whom.
aside from that , my heart goes out to you leaving cs after so long and wondering whethter there even is a god. Cs is so all consuming. At least it was for me in that every thought passing through our minds is questioned, analized, accepted or rejected based on Eddy's guidance and interpretation of what and how to think. If you go through all the mental gymnastics for years ans still don't get the results promised (healings) it is easy to become discouraged and doubtful as to the existance of God.
And yet ,to walk away from cs feels like leaving god. I suppose we did leave god in a sense . God was presented as thus and such by Eddy. many of us who were indoctrinated into cs as children had no other concept of god to compare our god to. So, in a way, we did leave our god when we walked away. It felt that way to me. But I had to get Cs off my back and stop the conflict in my head.
Still, I believe God is. And I can't toss out all that is written abut Jesus. And I can see with my own eyes that love is real and as near perfect as anything can be. With those ideas as a foundation , I am building a new faith in god that trusts that the words and acts of Jesus are enough.
I 'm not advocating a 'new' religion here. Just telling you how I have dealt with starting over post christian science.
These posts should be moved to another thread. Sorry

| I have read and re-reread my anonymous posts here, and I am compelled to offer my deepest apologies. I suddenly realized that some of my comments have been extremely arrogant and offensive. Contrary to what I wrote in my previous post, I now realize that your only purpose is not to disparage Christian Science, but your real purpose is to help those who have been truly harmed by their practice of Christian Science. Please accept my apology. I will try to be more constructive in any future posts.
