Do Go is NOT Mike Benjamin. And if he's like me, the "gadgets" he uses to pull up Bible verses consist of the following: a working knowledge of the Bible from spending a lot of time there, an online Bible search program that lets me type in key words and find references for the Bible verses that are floating around in my head, and the link bar at the top of the text box on this discussion forum (see the box that says "http"). These are all the gadgets required for pulling up and linking to Bible verses, and they're available to all.

Linda...you are obsessed with delivering people from Christian Science. Cool off, lady. The poor woman just wanted some information. She doesn't need to hear your distorted, obsessive thoughts, no doubt put there by your anger of 'being duped' for 30 years. Reading S&H doesn't put everybody in such a state as you so love to describe of your own experiences. This site was not put here for you to 'deprogram' persons before they even attempt to hear the fundamentals. I'd hate to hear what you'd have to say about the Course of Miracles.

TJG, What makes you think it was a woman who wanted information? Do you have some kind of inside information...or maybe it was you all along. Speaking of cooling off, you are in dire need of some cold water yourself. Every single time you come on here you are angry about something. You have nothing whatsoever to offer, ever. Just your critical, cynical, snide remarks. They get old real fast. Do you have any warmth in you at all? Or anything worthwhile to offer here?

I think that TJG is one of the few honest people at this site. Are you another Calvary Church planted stoodge?

Maybe the woman who started this trend is a planted stoodge too, so that the whiners here can complain again about their poor poor life.

How dare you call me a liar Linda. You and Calvary Church are nothing but a group of liars.

Anonymous Wednesday, October 01, 2003 4:54 PM,

What I want to know is, if you had nothing else to try, would you try CS?

CS does not hold the franchise on God's healing mercies. I depend on God for all healing though no longer as taught in CS. Jesus Christ said all we need do is ask in His name. I pray for health and when I feel the need for medical help, I pray for wisdom to be led to a good, believing doctor. I pray that the doctor will be granted wisdom by God to treat me. It's an awesome healthcare system with God in control! The last time I had surgery, my surgeon and his team were believers. My last memory as I lost consciousness was of them praying together for my recovery.

Therefore, my answer to your question is that I always have God so no longer need or want CS under any circumstances.

Dear Original Anonymous of 10/01 (who started this thread),

Please accept our collective apologies for allowing this thread to descend into a heated rant. There are intense emotions on both sides of Christian Science ("CS"). Christianway is composed of ex-CS'ists, and a lot of us have had some pretty unpleasant histories because of it. You're probably aware of a number of high-profile child deaths that have been attributed to the attempts to use CS healing. Short of those tragedies, a number of us have had ailments and issues that we believe were aggravated by CS "treatment" (or healing techniques). For example, I know of people who never got eye glasses until college, were never treated for tuburculosis - and had pulmonary distress thereafter -, and who were handicapped because of untreated childhood injuries.

And, of course, defenders of CS are free to participate here. They tend to believe that the problem was not CS, but rather the inadequate "faith" (or "spiritual understanding") of the afflicted individuals. As you noticed, things get pretty intense.

I was brought up 3rd generation CS; two members of my family were "Teachers" - they train(ed) people to become "practioners," specialists who "pray" for people - for pay - to "treat" their ailments, problems, etc. Eventually, I came to agree with Mark Twain's witticism: that it is neither "Christian" nor a "science."
If you have the time, you might check out Linda's book,
The Religion That Kills, which reads pretty fast; she uses only CS-approved references to make her argument. A more ambitous read is Caroline Fraser's book, God's Perfect Child, which covers CS history with greater depth. (Check the "Resources" button on the Home page.)

Check out the other articles on the website, besides the Forum, please. Bear in mind that CS is a religon that really demands a major commitment if it is to be practiced effectively. Many of us consider it to be a cult, and, like many cults, you find that the first exposure is moderate and non-threatening, but as one gets more involved in it, the requirements become much more stringent. The censorship of your postings at spirituality.com are one minor indication of this: they can be very protective.

Lastly, Anonymous, keep searching for the proper, effective treatment of that unspecified ailment. DO turn to God and ask for guidance to the appropriate remedy. And ask God for him to heal you directly, too!! Use your intellect, and ask good friends and family members for their opinions. Do you have a responsible clergyman to help? Remember, sometimes an answer needs more time to be properly effective, and sometimes you just have to abandon one "solution" and look for another! We wouldn't think of trying to advise you...

BUT! Please be very careful of any remedy or answer that is radical, marginalized, or seems strange to you. For example, if the promoters rely heavily on personal testimonies and/or anecdotal evidence (such as you hear on infomercials), chances are it's not a remedy that conventional scientists endorse.

God bless you!

This last two people are trying to convince you that their parents and grandparents and other family members died as Christian Scientists. They are now out to prove that all who follow Christian Science are going to be in hell. Draw your own conclusions on who these imposters are.

Dear Anonymous / TJG,

Please, let's try and focus on the issues. Since we don't know who and where we are, ad hominem attacks are not only uncivil, but also futile.

Incidentally, it is highly unlikely that Do_Go_Be_Man is Pastor Benjamin. Most Evangelical and Fundamental ministers typically work 55-70 hours a week. Their activities include personal devotions/prayer time, sermon preparation, meetings, maintenance work (or oversight), more meetings, counseling, communityi meetings, weddings, funerals....I make it a point to challenge MY pastor to make sure he is setting aside time for his wife and children! (He does.) I state this because (1) it is something that, when I was in CS it was something I was quite ignorant of. And (2) if Do_Go_ is a minister, he wouldn't have the time to be reading and posting as much as he does!!

BTW, Do_Go_Be_Man, would you mind explaining your moniker? I'm afraid it's lost on me!
