What a great story! Praise God for his Word, and for his grace in calling you!
I am so glad you made the plunge from passive to active.
I especially agree that Christian Scientists are fantastically faithful people, and the church of Jesus Christ could benefit greatly from their dedication, devotion and sincerity.
The step that turned me to Scripture, and I suspect will help other CSers to turn to the Bible is to challenge them to answer some biblical doctrine from the Bible itself. Anything to get them into Scripture directly, and outside the "blue chalk lines", to see what the Bible itself has to say on a topic. When I looked into the Bible, what I discovered was that it was looking into ME. "The Word of God is living and active" Heb. 4:11-13.
